Instructions to Those Who Minister

1All who are under the yoke as slaves are to regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so 2that the name of God and our doctrine will not be spoken against.
Those who have believers as their masters must not be disrespectful to them because they are 3brethren, but must serve them all the more, because those who partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. 4Teach and preach these principles.
If anyone 5advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with 6sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine 7conforming to godliness,
he is 8conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in 9controversial questions and 10disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions,
and constant friction between 11men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who 12suppose that godliness is a means of gain.
13But godliness actually is a means of 14great gain when accompanied by 15contentment.
For 16we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot * take anything out of it either.
If we 17have food and covering, with these we shall be content.
18But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and 19a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.
For 20the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have 21wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
But 22flee from these things, you 23man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, 24faith, 25love, perseverance and gentleness.
26Fight the good fight of 27faith; 28take hold of the eternal life 29to which you were called, and you made the good 30confession in the presence of 31many witnesses.
32I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of 33Christ Jesus, who testified the 34good confession 35before Pontius Pilate,
that you keep the commandment without * stain or reproach until the 36appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,
which He will bring about at 37the proper time -He who is 38the blessed and 39only Sovereign, 40the King of kings and 41Lord of lords,
42who alone possesses immortality and 43dwells in unapproachable light, 44whom no man has seen or can see. 45To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.
Instruct those who are rich in 46this present world 47not to be conceited or to 48fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, 49who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.
Instruct them to do good, to be rich in 50good works, 51to be generous and ready to share,
52storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may 53take hold of that which is life indeed.
O 54Timothy, guard 55what has been entrusted to you, avoiding 56worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called "knowledge "-
which some have professed and thus 57gone astray from 58the faith. 59Grace be with you.
