Man of Lawlessness

Now we request you, 1brethren, with regard to the [a]2coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our 3gathering together to Him,
that you not be quickly shaken from your [b]composure or be disturbed either by a 4spirit or a [c]5message or a 6letter as if from us, to the effect that 7the day of the Lord 8has come.
9Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless * the [d]10apostasy comes first, and the 11man of lawlessness is revealed, the 12son of destruction,
who opposes and exalts himself above [e]13every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, 14displaying himself as being God.
Do you not remember that 15while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?
And you know 16what restrains him now, so that in his time he will be revealed.
For 17the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only 18he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.
Then that lawless one 19will be revealed whom the Lord will slay 20with the breath of His mouth and bring to an end by the 21appearance of His [f]coming;
that is, the one whose [g]coming is in accord with the activity of 22Satan, with all power and [h]23signs and false wonders,
and with [i]all the deception of wickedness for 24those who perish, because * they did not receive the love of 25the truth so as to be saved.
For this reason 26God [j]will send upon them a 27deluding influence so that they will believe what is false,
in order that they all may be judged who 28did not believe the truth, but 29took pleasure in wickedness.
30But we should always give thanks to God for you, 31brethren beloved by the Lord, because 32God has chosen you from the beginning 33for salvation 34through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.
It was for this He 35called you through 36our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
So then, brethren, 37stand firm and 38hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether 39by word of mouth or 40by letter from us.
41Now may our Lord Jesus Christ 42Himself and God our Father, who has 43loved us and given us eternal comfort and 44good hope by grace,
45comfort and 46strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
