You Are Built Up in Christ

For I want you to know how great a 1struggle I have on your behalf and for those who are at 2Laodicea, and for all those who have not personally seen my face,
that their 3hearts may be encouraged, having been 4knit together in love, and attaining to all 5the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a 6true knowledge of 7God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself,
in whom are hidden all 8the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
9I say this so that no one will delude you with 10persuasive argument.
For even though I am 11absent in body, nevertheless I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your 12good discipline and the 13stability of your faith in Christ.
Therefore as you have received 14Christ Jesus the Lord, so 15walk in Him,
having been firmly 16rooted and now being 17built up in Him and 18established in your faith, just as you 19were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.
20See to it that no one takes you captive through 21philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the 22elementary principles of the world, rather than * according to Christ.
For in Him all the 23fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
and in Him you have been 24made complete, and 25He is the head over all 26rule and authority;
and in Him 27you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of 28the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ;
having been 29buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also 30raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who 31raised Him from the dead.
When you were 32dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He 33made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,
having canceled out 34the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and 35He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
When He had 36disarmed the 37rulers and authorities, He 38made a public display of them, having 39triumphed over them through Him.
Therefore no one is to 40act as your judge in regard to 41food or 42drink or in respect to a 43festival or a 44new moon or a 45Sabbath day-
things which are 46a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ.
Let no one keep 47defrauding you of your prize by 48delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, 49inflated without cause by his 50fleshly mind,
and not holding fast to 51the head, from whom 52the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.
53If you have died with Christ to the 54elementary principles of the world, 55why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to 56decrees, such as,
"Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!"
(which all refer 57to things destined to perish with use )-in accordance with the 58commandments and teachings of men?
These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in 59self-made religion and self-abasement and 60severe treatment of the body, but are of no * value against 61fleshly indulgence.
