The LORD Delivers Men from Manifold Troubles.

BOOK 5

Oh 1 give thanks to the LORD, for 2 He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Let 3the redeemed of the LORD say so, Whom He has 4redeemed from the hand of the adversary
And 5gathered from the lands, From the east and from the west, From the north and from the south.
They 6wandered in the wilderness in a desert region; They did not find a way to an inhabited 7city.
They were hungry and thirsty; Their 8soul fainted within them.
Then they 9cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He delivered them out of their distresses.
He led them also by a 10straight way, To go to 11an inhabited city.
12Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
For He has 13satisfied the thirsty soul, And the 14hungry soul He has filled with what is good.
There were those who 15dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, 16Prisoners in misery and chains,
Because they had 17rebelled against the words of God And 18spurned the 19counsel of the Most High.
Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was 20none to help.
Then they 21cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.
He 22brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And 23broke their bands apart.
24Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
For He has 25shattered gates of bronze And cut bars of iron asunder.
Fools, because of their rebellious way, And 26because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
Their 27soul abhorred all kinds of food, And they 28drew near to the 29gates of death.
Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses.
He 30sent His word and 31healed them, And 32delivered them from their destructions.
33Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
Let them also offer 34sacrifices of thanksgiving, And 35tell of His works with joyful singing.
Those who 36go down to the sea in ships, Who do business on great waters;
They have seen the works of the LORD, And His wonders in the deep.
For He 37spoke and raised up a 38stormy wind, Which 39lifted up the waves of the sea.
They rose up to the heavens, they went down to the depths; Their soul 40melted away in their misery.
They reeled and 41staggered like a drunken man, And were at their wits' end.
Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses.
He 42caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed.
Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven.
43Let them give thanks to the LORD for His lovingkindness, And for His 44wonders to the sons of men!
Let them 45extol Him also 46in the congregation of the people, And 47praise Him at the seat of the elders.
He 48changes rivers into a wilderness And springs of water into a thirsty ground;
A 49fruitful land into a 50salt waste, Because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
He 51changes a wilderness into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water;
And there He makes the hungry to dwell, So that they may establish 52an inhabited city,
And sow fields and 53plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest.
Also He blesses them and they 54multiply greatly, And He 55does not let their cattle decrease.
When they are 56diminished and 57bowed down Through oppression, misery and sorrow,
He 58pours contempt upon princes And 59makes them wander 60in a pathless * waste.
But He 61sets the needy securely on high away from affliction, And 62makes his families like a flock.
The 63upright see it and are glad; But all 64unrighteousness shuts its mouth.
Who is 65wise? Let him give heed to these things, And consider the 66lovingkindnesses of the LORD.
