The Warnings of History to the Ungodly 1 [a]1Jude, a 2bond-servant …
The Warnings of History to the Ungodly
1 [a]1Jude, a 2bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of [b]James, To 3those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and 4kept for Jesus Christ:
2
5May mercy and peace and love 6be multiplied to you.
3
7Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our 8common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you 9contend earnestly for 10the faith which was once for all 11handed down to 12the [c]saints.
4
For certain persons have 13crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand [d]14marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn 15the grace of our God into 16licentiousness and 17deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
5
Now I desire to 18remind you, though 19you know all things once for all, that [e]the Lord, 20after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, [f]subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.
6
And 21angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has 22kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,
7
just as 23Sodom and Gomorrah and the 24cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and 25went after [g]strange flesh, are exhibited as an [h]26example in undergoing the 27punishment of eternal fire.
8
Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, 28defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile [i]angelic majesties.
9
But 29Michael 30the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about 31the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "32The Lord rebuke you!"
10
But 33these men revile the things which they do not understand; and 34the things which they know by instinct, 35like unreasoning animals, by these things they are [j]destroyed.
11
Woe to them! For they have gone 36the way of Cain, and for pay [k]they have rushed headlong into 37the error of Balaam, and 38perished in the rebellion of Korah.
12
These are the men who are [l]hidden reefs 39in your love feasts when they feast with you 40without fear, caring for themselves; 41clouds without water, 42carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, [m]doubly dead, 43uprooted;
13
44wild waves of the sea, casting up 45their own [n]shame like foam; wandering stars, 46for whom the [o]black darkness has been reserved forever.
14
It was also about these men that 47Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, "48Behold, the Lord came with [p]many thousands of His holy ones,
15
49to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which 50ungodly sinners have spoken against Him."
16
These are 51grumblers, finding fault, 52following after their own lusts; [q]they speak 53arrogantly, flattering people 54for the sake of gaining an advantage.
Keep Yourselves in the Love of God
17 But you, 55beloved, 56ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by 57the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,
18
that they were saying to you, "58In the last time there will be mockers, 59following after their own ungodly lusts."
19
These are the ones who cause divisions, [r]60worldly-minded, [s]devoid * of the Spirit.
20
But you, 61beloved, 62building yourselves up on your most holy 63faith, 64praying in the Holy Spirit,
21
keep yourselves in the love of God, 65waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
22
And have mercy on some, who are doubting;
23
save others, 66snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, 67hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
24
68Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to 69make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with 70great joy,
25
to the 71only 72God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, 73be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, 74before all time and now and [t]forever. Amen.
