Exhortation

1Finally, brethren, 2pray for us that 3the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it did also with you;
and that we will be 4rescued from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith.
But 5the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from 6the evil one.
We have 7confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you 8are doing and will continue to do what we command.
May the Lord 9direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.
Now we command you, brethren, 10in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you 11keep away from every brother who leads an 12unruly life and not according to 13the tradition which you received from us.
For you yourselves know how you ought to 14follow our example, because we did not act in an undisciplined manner among you,
nor did we 15eat anyone's * bread without paying for it, but with 16labor and hardship we kept 17working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of you;
not because we do not have 18the right to this, but in order to offer ourselves 19as a model for you, so that you would follow our example.
For even 20when we were with you, we used to give you this order: 21if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either.
For we hear that some among you are 22leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like 23busybodies.
Now such persons we command and 24exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ to 25work in quiet fashion and eat their own bread.
But as for you, 26brethren, 27do not grow weary of doing good.
If anyone does not obey our instruction 28in this letter, take special note of that person 29and do not associate with him, so that he will be 30put to shame.
Yet 31do not regard him as an enemy, but 32admonish him as a 33brother.
Now 34may the Lord of peace 35Himself continually * grant you peace in every circumstance. 36The Lord be with you all!
I, Paul, write this greeting 37with my own hand, and this is a distinguishing mark in every letter; this is the way I write.
38The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
